TU In Action - Big Lost River fish passage projectReconnecting Idaho's upper Big Lost River habitat
Thanks to TU's Idaho Water Project, a rare strain of native whitefish is poised for recovery in the upper Big Lost River.  In October, three existing dam diversions were retrofitted with fish passage structures. By reducing habitat fragmentation, fish ladders and bypass channels allow whitefish to move out of uninhabitable stream segments and help them to complete life-cycle migrations. »Press release

TU In ActionWyoming students help with trout research
Earlier this month, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students and their teachers came to the banks of the East Fork of the Wind River to see the trout of their home waters as a part of the Adopt-A-Trout program. They learned about trout adaptations, helped tag trout and learned how tagged fish are tracked with telemetry equipment. They also got to try their hand at fly fishing. »Press release

»Download (2.7 MB)
Trout Unlimited started the Western Water Project in 1998 with a commitment to working at the state level to gain a voice for coldwater resources in the West. Working in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming and California, it uses science and legal-based knowledge, coupled with TU’s grassroots mobilization, to challenge the fundamental debate underlying western water law and to promote the benefits of healthy flowing streams not only to fish, but to the economic vitality of the region.
